In Thug Matrimony by Wahida Clark, readers are reintroduced to Angel Smith and Kaylin Santos, the new Bonnie and Clyde. Kaylin crept out of the drug game and owned a new record label and recycling business. Angel had a law practice and was looking forward to being Mrs. Kaylin Santos. On their wedding day, amid all of the hustle and bustle of what should have been a happy occasion, the couple were visited by individuals who were a lot more than unwanted. This appearance caused so much chaos that it threatened not only the wedding, but also the lives of individuals who were no longer playing street games. Would Angel and Kaylin's past create enough friction in the present to destroy their relationship? Or would their struggles strengthen their bond and propel them into the future as husband and wife?

Wahida Clark did her thing in Thug Matrimony. The scenes were vivid and the characters were lively. The sex scenes were erotic and fulfilling. The editing was on point and scene transitions were careful and smooth. There will be a forthcoming addition to the `Thug' series tentatively titled Thug Matrimony, Volume II, which I will definitely get my hands on. I recommend Thug Matrimony to urban fiction fans that enjoy well-rounded stories that do not leave you hanging and have realistic drama.

The Wait Is Finally Over!!!!

Thug Matrimony the highly anticipated sequel to Thugs and The Women Who Love Them and Every Thug Needs A Lady was definately worth the wait!!!!! I can't bear to give away any of the book not even the storyline. All I can say is that all of the characters are back with the book primarily focusing on Kaylin, Angel, Trae, Tasha and of course Snake.

Wahida's Thug series perfectly exemplifies books that are straight hood but dayum good!!!! Anyone who missed out on the frist two should definately get the revised editions along with Thug Matrimony. Everybody who've already read the first two need to run and get their copy of Thug Matrimony!!!!

Hear ye, hear ye, the jury has taken a seat, the judge has banged his gavel, and the verdict is in.....

Wahida has finally quenched our thirst for the long awaited Trae/Tasha finale. Although "Thug Matrimony" is Kay and Angel's story, she answered the question that we have all wanted answered!!!! He's alive!!! Thank GOD for Trae's miraculous recovery!!!

This Thug journey marches on with drama from the wedding crashers, to stalking, pimping, murder, rap beefs, all the way to the Don's of the mafia. So you know that you will not get bored or distracted. Wahida captures your attention from the rooter to the tooter!!

Break Out of the Box

This is a great book if you're looking to break out of the proverbial pentatonic minor box position and make your soloing more melodic. Essentially, the book is a collection of licks that highlight "target" tones for the I, IV and V chords in the blues progression. It is crammed full of information, and the CD is a welcome addition that was notably lacking in Gress's previous book. You'll need discipline to work through this, but added to a practice routine it will definitely help take the advanced beginner to the intermediate level.

Blues Factory: great instruction book and CD for building riffs. Some of these you have heard other guitarists play, but now you can tweak and link them into your own as part of your solos. The CD includes mp3 examples that you can link together into your own working copy solo. What a great way to spend practice days playing your riff-blocks.

Good idea, but could use a clearer howto at the beginning

A good concept for constructing single note (I.e. One note at a time) solos, though you're free to throw in double stops, etc. The basic concept for a 12 bar blues would be 2x (pickup lick)->(chord tone of the I with pentatonic noodling to the root) then (pickup lick)->(chord tone of the IV with pentatonic noodling to the root) then (pickup lick)->(chord tone of the I with pentatonic noodling to the root) then (Pickup lick)->(1 measure V chord tone lick) then (1 measure IV chord tone lick) then (2 measure turnaround lick). You have to decide which of the chord tones of each chord to target. You have to read through a fair amount of the book and try some things out before this becomes clear.

Catherine (Cat) married young and has never slept with anyone but her very boring and domineering husband. When she finds herself divorced at 29, she decides its time to let loose and make up for lost time, so she propositions a gorgeous green-eyed stranger named Jackson at a club for one night stand. The sex turns out to be so mind-blowing it motivates her to make a list of her 30 wildest sexual fantasies, all of which she is determined to experience in the next 30 days before she turns 30 years old.

The sexcapades that ensue are crazy! And hilarious! And super steamy!

After their one night stand, Cat and Jackson form a friendship and he is on board with helping her check off everything on her list, both as a wingman and as a partner. At first, Cat is having the time of her life, having several sexual encounters a day with all kinds of interesting partners, and feeling very carefree, but pretty soon her feelings for Jackson start to turn into more, and the reappearance of her ex becomes a big problem. And from there things get complicated...

This story had just the right balance of humor, sex, romance, and conflict. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to find out what was going to happen next. I can't wait to read more from this author!

Okay quick read. My first issue was the list. I really wanted to see a copy of it as soon as she made it. Definitely by the time she started checking things off of it. Secondly some of the scenes were really steamy, while others seemed perfunctory. It seemed as though there were two separate pieces, the erotica and the story. I don't know how to explain it, but somehow it didn't all mesh well for me. And I liked both parts, just it shouldn't have seemed like two separate parts. But overall an entertaining read.

Honest and sobering storytelling with a dash of humor

I picked up this book at 4:30pm (right after the Seahawks declared victory over the packers) thinking that I would have a leisurely evening multitasking with cooking dinner and picking it back up after my daughter went to bed. But no, I read it from beginning to end all in one evening because it was so captivating.

And yes, I have grown to be skeptical of listening to messages from the pulpit about suffering and rolling my eyes about how the preacher over spiritualizes and delivers pat messages about suffering, but there isn't an ounce of that in this book. This is an honest account about the disappointment that Peter chin and his family have endured and it is also an account about the overwhelming faithfulness of God (delivered without the pat messages of course).

Peter Chin, thank you for your courage and bravery in being so vulnerable about how God has shaped you and how he is currently shaping you. May your life (and this book) be an example of how we can be more vulnerable with each other and how we can live our lives as co-sufferers in experiencing God's overwhelming love and goodness.

A great read! Who hasn't wrestled with these same questions of disappointment and suffering? Highly recommended.

I've bought hundreds of books from Amazon, but this is my first ever attempt at a review. I think it's fitting though as Pastor Peter Chin's book struck a chord with me in a deeply personal way, weaving the age old questions of "is God good, and can he be fully trusted?" into his (and his family's) very personal story of faith and trust. It's written in a way that very easily draws you in, and I found myself reading the entire book in a single sitting!

There's a little bit of a "blue like jazz'" feel to it as it seems you not only get to know Peter on a personal level, but also his wife Carol and the rest of their children. I appreciate how the book leaves room for the mystery of God in suffering, and doesn't give pat and easy answers of "well this happened because God wanted to do this". Blind Sided by God draws you into the Chin family's story of faith with refreshing humor and flow, allowing at the same time for you to see similarities of struggle in your own journey...and ultimately coming out feeling like you've walked a little bit of the journey with this wonderful family of seven.

That's Pastor Peter Chin speaking.
The night he's speaking of was a night where he came to the end of all his reserves.
His beautiful young wife had aggressive breast cancer, coming close on the heels of the miscarriage of her third pregnancy. Their two daughters were under five years of age.
They had just moved to a new city, into a neighborhood infested with crime, for the purpose of planting a church.

Nothing that defined Peter before this point could help him now.
The fact that he was a pastor couldn't carry him.
The fact that he was her husband couldn't fight Carol's disease.
The fact that he was their father couldn't shield his daughters from fear.
Only a living God, One who is present with His people, could meet these needs.

In this new book, Peter takes us step by step through these dark, difficult, valley-of-the-shadow months.

The Chin's personal story is riveting. (The author may object to that, but it was.)
The trials they encountered came so hard and fast that it's no wonder Peter felt betrayal and despair when he thought of them all.
The wonder is that he can now point to providence, care, redemption, and grace as sustaining his family during it all.

In the beginning of the book, he tells us that he's not writing a theological treatise on suffering, he's relating his personal experience.
Without crossing the line into academic analysis, he brings forth some incredible insights.
When you get your copy, pay attention to these chapters- "The Mulberry and the Wisteria" and "A Minor Miracle."

How he keeps his sense of humor I don't know, but this is also one of the funniest books I've read in a while. (I started laughing out loud when he made this certain comment about the hospital elevator.)

Short review: This book will wrench your heart as you think about a family trying to deal with all of this, and it will move you to praise God as you see His presence in their lives.

One Book That Does It All

I'm planning a trip to Paris in a couple of months and was looking for a travel guide and a French language book, when I came upon this title. With just 15 minutes a day you can learn French. It starts off with the basics - French vowels and consonants and how they should be pronounced. Then you move on to basic greetings, introducing yourself, and then onto numbers and an understanding of French grammar so you can properly speak to someone. This book also gives you the phonetic pronunciations of words and an understanding of the French accent. While your learning the language, points of interest are mentioned so it also serves as a travel guide. If you need a book that does it all this is the one to pick.

Great Primer for Beginning French!

Bought this for my daughter's Kobo, as she's heading to Paris for a school trip, and knows even less french than me. Read it to see if it was worth the buck, and was pleasantly surprised to find that not only does it teach you some basics of the french language and how to speak it, it also contains a bunch of helpful links to things to see and do and places to eat in the city.

It's way more helpful than a regular old French-English dictionary or phrase book, and for this price, I doubt you can get much better than what it's offering. You're probably going to have to have a basic understanding of how to read phonetics, but other than that, it seems like a great old school way to pick up some french.

This book is perfect for learning conversational French, and the basics of the language itself. Unlike most language learning books, Enjoy your Vacation to Paris: French Easy, Fast, & Fun provides helpful and interesting insight about France and French culture. Whereas most language learning books provide dry grammar lessons, this book provides practical information every Francophile sould know. Another area in which this book excels is in the area of pronunciation. Instead of leaving the reader without any pronunciation help after the first few chapters this book provides phonetic translations of all french terms throught the book. Highly recommended!

The myth of the natural black athlete is widespread, though it’s usually talked about only when a sports commentator or celebrity embarrasses himself by bringing it up in public. Brooks (sociology, Univ. of California at Riverside), having studied under and been inspired by the highly esteemed Elijah Anderson at the University of Pennsylvania, provides an ethnographic description of recreational basketball in South Philadelphia. A self-professed frustrated former high school basketball player (he blames himself and his former coach for his shortcomings), the author looks at the hopes and dreams of young inner-city black men he coached who aspired to play ball professionally. In true sociological tradition, he presents detailed information on members of the famed Blade Rodgers Neighborhood Development League, based on interviews with these athletes, their families, coaches, and other locals. While focusing on two athletes in particular, Brooks educates readers about a number of "street" realities (e.g., the daily struggle for survival and basketball viewed as a way out of the ghetto). Demystifying certain racial stereotypes, Brooks explains that even God-given skills must be developed through hard work and dedication. Realistic view of youth basketball

I use this book in my sociology of sports class. One of my students is a retired NBA player: he says it's a realistic portrayal of his experience. The book is an ethnographic study - that is, personal observations, participation, interviews and notes - on Black kids in Philadelphia and their experience in after school basketball league. Coaches, parents and the teen boys are all given a chance to tell their story and the result is a very readable and engaging study of the structural forces and individual determination that lead to a basketball college scholarship. Or not. "You either a basketball player or a drug dealer" is my favorite quote. Does it reinforce stereotypes about inner city black youth? You decide.

This was Krenov walking through the thought process behind both methods of work and project design. There are many valuable design lessons to be learned particularly about grain direction. If you plan to make a Krenov style plane, it's well described within including some dimensioned sketches. Some of his methods of work are a little specific (his horizontal mortiser that is directly attached to the table saw arbor is a little funky. I don't think SawStop has this in the product roadmap) There is some overlap with "A Cabinetmaker's Notebook" but that didn't bother me much at all. I would buy both again.

It depends really on what you want to use this book for...

The book is inspiring if you are looking for something to motivate you in a purist woodworking way. It is not necessarily a how to book, but more of a how to approach woodworking, written in the "old school" philosophy of a master crafstman. Hence the title... "The Fine Art of... " The version of the book I have is from the 70's complete with all black and white pictures. I probably got more out of this book than others in my woodworking libray of the more expensive glossy fluff books put out by many of the current publishers looking to catch your pocket book with eye candy. There is substance to this book and not fluff. It is not a step by step guide (for the most part).

I find this book to be insightful and informative. James Kernov has an understanding of wood unlike any other. He feels and sees things in wood that others just pass over.. I loved the way he draws you into each piece as he explains how it spoke to him.
there is great time spent on tools and machinery, how it should be used and how to safely use it. there is also great emphases on hand tools and how to create some of the tools that you will need to create fine works in wood.
I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in working with wood or who just wants a better understanding of one of the great woodworkers of the last 100 years.. James is a one of a kind worker of wood, and one who we should always remember for what he brought to cabinetry and the wood arts..

Simply the best microbiology review book

This book is great. It covers everything you need to know for step 1, while leaving out all you dont' need to know. The questions are probably the best micro vignette questions out there, and helps reinforce what you learned from the book.

This book is much better than micro made ridiculously simple in terms of boards review. Its written in outline format so you can get through it much faster, and it includes an immunology section that has all you need to know for the immunology questions on the step.

The only thing I don't like is the Rapid Review format. At times the outline format should be written in complete sentences (like the high-yield series) to avoid confusing statments/facts. For me, this seemed especially true in the immunology section, which can be confusing if you have a weak immuno background.

Other than that, this is a great review book. The only review book for micro in my opinion.

Good content, but not nearly comprehensive

I am a big fan of the Rapid Review series. The Pathology version by Goljan, as far as I'm concerned, is just as essential as First Aid when it comes to reviewing for class and Step 1. However, Microbiology and Immunology are what I would consider two of the most important topics covered on Step 1 along with pathology, pharmacology, and neuroscience. This book has some good review material in it, but is far from comprehensive. Many topics are discussed extremely briefly or omitted entirely. I could only recommend this book for someone who has Microbiology and Immunology down very well and just needs a super quick refresher. To be honest, First Aid does a better job of covering this material.

*** This review is regarding the content of the book only. I do own this book, but I have not accessed the Student Consult online material. Although I have accessed it for the pathology book in this series. From that material I have deduced that it can't make that big of a difference; but I could very easily be wrong.

Review of Microbiology and Immunology

Perfect for medical microbio class. I used Micro Made easy for class, and after reading this book to review for the boards I would definately recommend it over Micro made easy. The organization is better, it's a shorter text, has an outline format, has excellent tables that while are not as detailed as the micro made easy book are a lot easier to read, and it has everything you need to know for class, which micro made easy does not.

Immuno section is a bit brief but it has all the essentials. I would also recommend reading Immunobiology by Janeway and Medical Microbiology by Murray. Both texts are outstanding and really help you appreciate the subjects.
